Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Items of highest interest to the Museum are works by American artists and designers, as well as important historical items relevant to Yonkers and/or Westchester County history. A major priority is to expand collection holdings of artists more reflective of the rich diversity of the United States and our community. Not all donations may be accepted by the Museum. Each offer is assessed on a case-by-case basis by the Museum’s Curatorial Department. If you would like to donate an item to the Museum, please email curatorial@hrm.org with images and as much information as possible about the item.
No. It is against the policies of museums to authenticate or perform appraisals of the value of art and historical artifacts. For more information on locating an appropriate appraiser, please check out the The American Society of Appraisers.
For all image rights and reproduction requests, please email the Museum’s Registrar at adreliszak@hrm.org to receive an application form and information about fees. Please include as much information as possible about your project or publication. Due to staff time and possible new photography needs, requests may take up to two weeks for processing.
When available, positions at the Museum are posted here and on relevant websites and listservs. Should you be seeking employment or an internship, please send a cover letter and resume to employment@hrm.org and your inquiry will be directed to the appropriate department. Due to the volume of interest, the Museum may be unable to respond to every application.
Yes. We have a Docent Program for adults and a Junior Docent Program for high school students. For general volunteer opportunities, please contact volunteer@hrm.org.
Walk-in tours of Glenview, our historic home, are scheduled Wednesday through Sunday at 1 and 3pm. For public tours for both adults and families on selected Saturdays and Sundays, please see our calendar. Group tours of special exhibitions and permanent collection can be scheduled Tuesdays–Fridays between 10am and 5pm for an additional fee.
Visitors can see planetarium shows every Saturday and Sunday at 12:30pm (for our youngest visitors), 2pm (a live show for all ages), and 3:30pm (a more complex show for ages 8+); you can purchase tickets online or at the front desk. To reserve a private planetarium show for a group (Tuesday–Friday between 10am and 5pm) visit the Group Visits page for available shows and pricing information.

The Museum regularly features professional artist workshops and classes in conjunction with our special exhibitions and collections, in a myriad of visual and performing art mediums.
