Lilienthal, a tobacco merchant, built his Gothic Revival mansion Belvoir (“beautiful view”) around 1854, on North Broadway uphill from the future site of Glenview, but it suffered a very different fate. In the 20th century, Belvoir was a Jesuit residence and later the Abbey Inn and Restaurant, but its site is now covered with 1950s suburban homes.
