1919: Founding of the Museum
The Hudson River Museum was founded in Yonkers, New York, 100 years ago this year, when a group of local residents joined forces. Together, they aimed to start a museum that would provide “instruction and entertainment” to the general public and be “a matter of pride to the citizens of the town.” Like many museums, it began with only a few individuals, an idea, and a commitment to action.
Celebrating Our Centennial Year With You

Call for Objects and Photographs
Christian Stegall is the Samuel H. Kress Foundation Interpretive Fellow at the HRM. This one-year fellowship focuses on discovering, documenting, and discussing Yonkers’ diversity as it relates to the Museum.
Docents Celebrate the Holidays—and the Environment!
The Docents recently gathered together at the HRM to celebrate the holidays, with an environmentally friendly twist. Longtime Docent Maria Miehle says, “This is just one small way to do our part to keep our city, and river, a bit cleaner.”
