Asian Color Painting: Focus on Flowers
Create a flower painting inspired by the floral motifs of Glenview in a workshop led by Teaching-Artist-in-Residence Seongmin Ahn, who will teach participants the basic techniques of traditional Korean folk painting.
Asian color paintings are well known through Japanese screen paintings, Korean Buddhist paintings, and Chinese Gongbi paintings. Minhwa, nineteenth-century Korean folk painting, is unique among these, as its form was created and appreciated by the common people. Intimately related to everyday life, it displays the wit and humor of the Korean people and expresses the wish for good luck, long life, and the expulsion of evil spirits.
