How Climate Models Work: Learning from the Past, Looking at the Future
Can technology help solve our climate change emergency? Yes! It already has. Scientists have used computer modeling to figure out the workings and the future trajectory of the Earth’s climate. Thanks to this technology, we know the outlines of the problem, and we broadly know what measures will make it better, and which will make it much worse.
But figuring all this out wasn’t easy. Follow the epic tale of how we went from climatological “concern” in the 1970s to our current state of knowledge with Dr. Allegra LeGrande, a climatologist who has worked at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Studies in Manhattan for more than a decade. Dr. LeGrande will discuss the story of climate knowledge and what her research has revealed about other times human activity has had a large-scale effect on our planet.
