HRM Staff Share Their Favorite Works By Derrick Adams!
As we approach the final weeks of artist Derrick Adams’ exhibition, We Came to Party and Plan, we’re looking back at Adams’ joyful work at the HRM. Be sure to come see this unforgettable installation before it closes on October 18.
We Came to Party and Plan is an immersive, full-room installation that features more than 50 multimedia portraits of party-goers, bringing to life the complex exchanges that take place in spaces of celebration. It has been one of the favorites of visitors and staff alike.
A companion exhibition, Collection Spotlight: Derrick Adams Selects, also on view through October 18, features works from the permanent collection that highlight our interactions with water.
Derrick Adams: Buoyant, which was on view at the HRM this spring and summer, recently opened at the Museum of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg in Florida and will be on view there through November 29, 2020.

“One of my favorite details is the way that Derrick Adams overlapped the colors of these balloons,” says Deputy Director Samantha Hoover. “It makes me think of my kids’ birthday parties, when I always have balloons, and how balloons always make people happy.” Explore the We Came to Party and Plan installation, with its fabulous custom wallpaper by twenty2 wallpaper here.
Dean Clymer, Maintenance (March 16)
Dean Clymer, a member of our amazing Security and Maintenance team, loves this photograph of Tibbetts Park in Yonkers because he enjoyed going there as a kid himself. His favorite memories? “Cooking out in the park, going to swim, jumping in the pool. Just relaxing in the summertime, having a good time.” Watch more of his recollections here.
