Derrick Adams: Buoyant Exhibition Opening
Friday, March 6, 2020
On Friday, March 6, the Hudson River Museum hosted a fantastic and joyous opening in celebration of the opening of Derrick Adams: Buoyant. Guests donned party hats, posed on pool floaties, and experienced the vivid paintings in Adam’s Floaters series and the immersive installation We Came to Party and Plan—both of which were making their debut in any museum. The artist, Derrick Adams, was greeted by guests from many industries, as well as New York leadership including NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins, Mayor Mike Spano, representatives from the galleries representing the artist at Luxembourg & Dayan; Rhona Hoffman Gallery; and Salon 94, and many more! Thanks to the Cookery for providing tasty hors d’oeuvres, Greyston Bakery for their generous donation of delicious brownies, DJ Ness Digi and DJ True for keeping everyone dancing, and Party Staffing Inc. for the bartenders.
The exhibition was co-curated by James E. Bartlett, founder of OpenArt, and Laura Vookles, Chair of the HRM’s Curatorial Department. Major sponsorship of Derrick Adams: Buoyant is made possible by a generous grant from The Mr. and Mrs. Raymond J. Horowitz Foundation for the Arts. This exhibition is also supported in part by the City of Yonkers, Mayor Mike Spano; Luxembourg & Dayan; Rhona Hoffman Gallery; and Salon 94. The production of the custom wallpaper for “We Came To Party and Plan” has been generously donated by twenty2 wallpaper.
Exhibition programs are supported in part by Dr. Sharon Brangman and Charlie Lester, Cheryl Calegari, Michael Hoeh, DeWayne N. Phillips and Caroline Wamsler, PhD, Lisa Simonetti and Robin Jenkins, Everette Taylor, and friends of the Museum.
